village kanes & haiti round 2

so excited. like you do not even have a clue. or maybe you do? we are going back to haiti april 28th. so happy. we are starting our fundraising again= if you guys have any tips on this i would love to have them to share with my team. i keep thinking of all these ideas and things we can do and my mind is full. it is a very humbling experience to put yourself out there and ask someone else to donate to something that you care so much about.

this is village kanes

* these photos were taken by my beautiful friend Tracey- you can check her out here

to give you a picture, just think mud huts that are in need of repair. children with no clothes at all. there little chapped lips from being so thirsty, little dirty feet, and the biggest smiles. ronda had told us to be prepared for what we would see & we all have these visions in our minds of what it is going to be like, but it is completely different when you step off the bus and you see everything for yourself. you experience making a connection with a child that you cannot explain. you do not even know how to speak their language & yet there is this bond you have with them. i loved it. i instantly made this connection with this little boy who was playing peek a boo with me behind his mother. she eventually waved him over to me & i was hooked. him in just his little torn shirt was something so special to me. i gave him so many hugs and so many kisses.

village kanes is surrounded by such beauty & i would love to help them in every way possible. we were able to pass out shoes & rice to these families & they were so so happy. for our trip in april we are raising an extra $400 to put a water tank in for the people of village kanes. if you would like to contribute please feel free to visit my page here

Haiti Part #2

i have many favorite memories in haiti like meeting all the HCM staff, all my talks with the girls, worship on the roof, going to village of faith and doing worship at night in the complete darkness, taking cold showers and not really caring bc your so excited to wake up another day in such a beautiful country, their coffee, their food- i really crave rice & beans, trying to scare megan on the porch, hanging out with all the kids, getting some of the best hugs, visiting all the orphanages and seeing all those sweet kids i wish i could bring home with me or stay there and hang out with them everyday.. you get the point. i loved all of it.

sarah & megan- loved getting to know these sweet girls.

Whoa

i am so behind. these last few weeks have been really  busy with the husband and life in general. it is officially cold & i sort of like it. it is time for fires, thinking of camping, soup, chili, big sweaters and all things happy but most of all-  THANKSGIVING & CHRISTMAS.

some friends and i went and saw david ramirez at eddie’s attic– he was amazing and you all should go listen to his music right now and buy every album he has.

we also are only $250 dollars away from meeting our goal for our haiti trip in december. words cannot even express how excited and happy i am about this mission trip. to get away from this world of want and expectation to see a world where their  needs are something we take for granted every day. it is good to get out of your box, out of your comfort zone and do something good. i have been feeling like this for a while now, like everyday i do things and they don’t really matter. i want to do something that matters. there is so much need in the world. everywhere you look there is need. whether it be a shoulder to cry on, people dealing with self-esteem issues, someone who does not have food, someone who does not even own a pair of underwear or wear the same clothes everyday. you do not have to go on  a mission trip to bring change to the world, but i am very happy to be going on one. i know the change we will bring there will  bring just as much change for my own life.

other news: we are so busy with planning the holidays- so many families to visit but so excited to see all of them. say a prayer for my brother who is going through his ranger school right now- i know he is going to make it and we are so proud of him, cannot wait to go to his graduation.

i already have been wrapping presents for cory- we have decided not to do family gifts this year bc we are so busy so just presents between cory & i. we will be gone the week before christmas so it makes it easier. the family and i are going to bring a dish style christmas gathering and just enjoy being with each other. however i love christmas and i love wrapping and here are some really cool wrapping ideas i found on pinterest.

Vacation Pictures!

well. so sad it is over, but i am happy thinking of all the memories made this past week. i would go through this blog with links to all the places we ate (which was a lot), but it would take me forever. so i will talk about my top 2 fav’s which was low country backyard & the famous mrs. wilkes dining room. i had the shrimp burger and a side of mac-n-cheese at low country & it was amazing. cory had a dish with salmon, shrimp, and sausage over rice & we split a banana pudding. they also served their sweet tea & the banana pudding in mason jars. loved it. we spent one day (the last day cory was there) in savannah, we started off waiting in line for mrs. wilkes. mrs. wilkes house was so good, it reminded me of being at my nanny’s house from supper. we all sat down at a big country table and there were dishes everywhere with food. every vegetable you can think of was on the table completed with a huge dish of fried chicken. i adored the black eyed peas & cucumber salad- i think i had 3 glasses of sweet tea. if you are ever in savannah please go there! after eating we shopped around savannah, cory bought a new hat, i tried a milk, lavender, & honey  popsicle from the honey store on riverstreet & we stopped at a random bar for drinks. we had this one famous drink and now i cannot remember the name of it, but it had 4 cases of champagne, brown sugar, lots of liqueur, some juice and i don’t know what else. so so so so good. anyways, we had a really good time and here are a few pictures.

Gumbeaux’s & Friends

our new “thing” when we are in town is going to gumbeaux’s on thursday nights for oyster night. seriously you guys, the best baked/fried oysters. yummmmy. i adore having my friends around- for eating- talking- hanging out by fires- adventures- and did i mention eating? i just love being with people i care about and i enjoy fellowship. i enjoy giving to one another, whether it be time or a shoulder to cry on, or just plain ole’ fashion hang out doing nothing kind of time. so last night, cory, myself, andee, jena, april, nick & ronda all met up at gumbeaux’s for some cajun delight. food, laughs, and drinks all made for a fun night & i would not want to share it with anyone else. it is kind of bittersweet being with this group, they all live in carroll county and it makes me miss it so much, but at the same time i am happy we can meet half way to enjoy each others company.

yesterday on my walk for my lunch break i made my way to this little bookstore, little shop of stories. i usually go there for a good cookbook, or some really cute birthday cards for family, but yesterday i stumbled upon this book (i do not remember the name) about community & the importance of fellowship. i skimmed through some of the pages and put it down. now i wish i would have gotten it bc last night surrounded by all these amazing people it hit me how much i truly love and believe in fellowship. not this “label” that people throw around these days- but true fellowship with people who have so much to give and so much to give to each other, and hearts that can receive what others have to give. i did however but 2 other books, one about raising chickens & the other was a travel book with all the historic and fun things to do in georgia and the carolina’s. so, since we are going to hilton head in 15 days i decided to look up all the best places to eat, and fun things to do. i found a bunch and i am so excited to take my fancy camera and document and then write about all of these adventures.

here are some pictures from last night..

Weekend Getaway

ah. it is  monday. i had such a fun time in hilton head this weekend with my girls, & cannot wait to go back august 31st for a whole week. the ocean is one of my favorite places to be, i always feel at peace when i am there- it is almost like time just stops and i dont care about anything else in the world.

we got there saturday around 11- made it to the beach around 12 and stayed pretty much all day. there was a wedding we got to see- birds attacking our food- and memories made. sometimes its nice to have a girls weekend and just have time away. not that i didn’t miss my hubs while i was there- but just to be with friends and talk about where you have come from and where you want to be.

jena & i have been friends for a while. we met before cory & i ever were an item. her & her husband were there for cory when he was going through a really rough time & they truly are some of the best people out there. they have been with us since the “beginning” and i’m sure they always will be. cannot wait to have kids of my own- so they can grow up with their little one.

sunday we were going to get up early and go watch the sun rise–  but it decided to rise at 6:30 and our alarms were set for 6:34.  we packed up and checked out- headed to frosty frog cafe for some drinks (my friend jillian recommended the place), and then went to the beach. there were so many people there- last week before school starts back & this is obviously the place to be.

got home around 7:45 & what is the first thing i do- work out with Chalene Johnson! That junk works- my arms are killing me today. Cannot wait to go back and have a week of fun with friends and my love.

April’s 21st, My 21st and Hilton Head

wednesday we went out to hiram and celebrated april’s birthday.her 21st birthday. i do not remember 21 really– it was so long ago. i remember the party my mom had for me. we went to a greek restaurant in marietta. i remember all my friends there and my family. the owner is from greece and was in town & he helped pull my party off in the most amazing way. the table was all set when i got there, different types of food on the table for us to try, candles, & white wine. i remember just laughing and having the best time with everyone & we were there until the place closed. the owner was so thoughtful and really wanted to make sure i had the best time. he moved all of the tables & chairs out of the way & taught my whole group a traditional greek dance. it really was my favorite birthday party ever, i just wish i knew cory at the time so he could have been there.

anyways, enough about that. tomorrow morning i am leaving with two of my favorite girls in the world for hilton head. what? yes. so excited. just a little weekend getaway with some of my favorites. gonna miss my love- even if it is for a day, but so so excited.

at the end of august we are going back to hilton head for a full week of fun in the sun with jena & andee. we are going to eat as much seafood as possible, drink as many fruity drinks we can manage and enjoy every single minute together. i love going places with him & experiencing new things together. so happy that god blessed me with the funniest person on the planet to do life with. i am truly blessed and so very thankful for everything & every person in my life.

Georgia Summer

It is seriously officially summer here in georgia. very hot. very sticky. but i love it.

summer is my most favorite time of the year (besides christmas of any other holiday).

i love the sun – snow cones- ice cream melting before you have a chance to eat it all- tans- messy beach hair & most of all the BEACH.

we are going the first week of september to Hilton head with some of our best friends! so excited and cannot wait. this past weekend we were in bremen at the in laws house and stayed in the pool all day. i used 50 spf and somehow still got burned. lots of vinegar and coconut oil later and im in good shape. we ate at corner cafe with some dear friends and had the best time.

what are yall’s summer plans?
