snarky puppy & penne a la vodka

before the show last night we had ike & sarah over for dinner. cory made penne a la vodka which was amazing. i am constantly surprised by my amazing husband and all his secret skills. i get frustrated sometimes because anything he does he is good at. this is one of my favorite dishes he does & it never disappoints. i remember the first time he made this dish he forgot to reduce the vodka…. lets just say we were at our worst for 3 days.

Image

ike & sarah are moving to nashville in april, & we are so sad but so excited for them & this new adventure. dexter is going to miss her a ton too.

Image

i am sure she will blog about her new adventures & you can follow her here

after dinner we headed over to terminal west to watch snarky puppy. i was blown away by the talent on the stage, at some point i was confused bc of all the technical things that were going on at the same time, my brain was being split into 8 different parts. if you have ever listened to them or seen them live you would know what i mean. i looked around at all the people & they looked like they were having a church service. like the shouting, dancing, raising the roof type of church service. it. was. awesome.

oh & my husband is the sweetest. when he picked me up from work yesterday he had gotten me this new scarf from whole foods. i am so blessed.

Image

i have been praying a lot lately for our country. hearing all these stories about ukraine & what people all over the world endure everyday breaks my heart. it makes me nervous about what is to come for america but i know God is in control. lets all take a moment to be thankful for every little thing we have. hold people close and love them.

sister sunday, squirrels, & a show

this past week has been eventful. sunday i went to c-town with cory for church but ending up sitting in a coffee shop all morning helping my sister organize her life. we are completely opposite when it comes to things like organization.

Image

some people say we look like twins

Image

this past week one of my co-workers brought me some squirrel meat stew. it was so good! i have had squirrel before but not in stew.

Image

hey, at least i can survive in the wild right?

last night cory played guitar with a band called gin house. they are pretty awesome. this band i had never heard of before called melodime was there & then courrier.

when cory & i first got married he got a guitar tech job with a band called parachute & some of the dates they played with courrier. cory has always spoken so highly of them. great musicians & pretty decent guys all around from what i have heard and the 5 minutes i spoke to them. i finally got to hear them play last night & i lOVED them. i told cory we need to make a road-trip out to austin and see them play there & bc i have never been to austin. if you guys are looking for some good music look them up!

80’s 4 haiti

last weekend we held a fundraiser #80s4haiti to raise  money for village kanes. we raised $600!!! that is more than enough to put a water tank in so they can have plenty of water. let me tell you, a little kid with chapped lips from thirst walking around with no clothes will change your perspective on a lot of things. at the fundraiser we all dressed up like we were from the 80’s we made all kinds of food and spent some time decorating.

Image

my husband was in the 80’s cover band & they threw down! it was so fun & i am so thankful to all who came, donated, participated & to the ones that are praying for us.

Whoa

i am so behind. these last few weeks have been really  busy with the husband and life in general. it is officially cold & i sort of like it. it is time for fires, thinking of camping, soup, chili, big sweaters and all things happy but most of all-  THANKSGIVING & CHRISTMAS.

some friends and i went and saw david ramirez at eddie’s attic– he was amazing and you all should go listen to his music right now and buy every album he has.

we also are only $250 dollars away from meeting our goal for our haiti trip in december. words cannot even express how excited and happy i am about this mission trip. to get away from this world of want and expectation to see a world where their  needs are something we take for granted every day. it is good to get out of your box, out of your comfort zone and do something good. i have been feeling like this for a while now, like everyday i do things and they don’t really matter. i want to do something that matters. there is so much need in the world. everywhere you look there is need. whether it be a shoulder to cry on, people dealing with self-esteem issues, someone who does not have food, someone who does not even own a pair of underwear or wear the same clothes everyday. you do not have to go on  a mission trip to bring change to the world, but i am very happy to be going on one. i know the change we will bring there will  bring just as much change for my own life.

other news: we are so busy with planning the holidays- so many families to visit but so excited to see all of them. say a prayer for my brother who is going through his ranger school right now- i know he is going to make it and we are so proud of him, cannot wait to go to his graduation.

i already have been wrapping presents for cory- we have decided not to do family gifts this year bc we are so busy so just presents between cory & i. we will be gone the week before christmas so it makes it easier. the family and i are going to bring a dish style christmas gathering and just enjoy being with each other. however i love christmas and i love wrapping and here are some really cool wrapping ideas i found on pinterest.

Sister Sunday & 100th post

you guys this is my 100th post. whoa.

i simply love the weekends. when weekends are in carrollton- i am ecsatic. cory started leading worship at a church in carrollton on sunday mornings so we are there every sunday. this past weekend we went to my moms for lunch- she made red beans & rice, smoked chicken wings, and her famous cornbread– for something sweet she made my great grandmothers recipe for cake with fudge icing and walnuts

Image

Image

then headed to see ashlan and aj their sweet baby girl

Image

lastly we made our way  to spend the night with my sister. she had made us dinner which was so sweet (& it was very good)- i decided to sleep in & cory went to church without me. i spent most of the morning scaring myself  with halloween movies & eating leftover cornbread. cory got home around 1 then we headed to olive garden for lunch & then to target to trade in his pants for a different size. i love target. i always spend too much money in there for sure.

Image

when cory dropped me back off at shenea’s (he had to go to another city to play guitar for a night service) we decided to take a nap and then we headed for a long walk to get some coffee at gallery row. we sat outside and just talked and then walked home. it is so sweet that we get along now. for those of you who don’t know we def. had a period in our lives where we did not talk at all. i think sister relationships are def. underrated & i’m so thankful we are friends. shenea made my moms recipe for salmon patties and baked mac-n-cheese for dinner – which made the walking dead even better. we all sat and watched the walking dead like we do every sunday & then headed out for the long drive home. btw what is happening on the walking dead???? i need to know!

Doughnut burger & a show

So Friday our friends came over before we went to the NEEDTOBREATHE/ Drew Holcomb & the neighbors. Jena had been talking about this place called Cypress St. Which is about 5 blocks from us.. We went. We ate. It was Amazing. They had the “sublime burger”. A burger with doughnuts as the bun. Bacon. Cheese.– are you drooling? So good & the last meal like this that I had before I started my “clean eating”. If you are ever in Atlanta PLEASE go! You can try their fried mushrooms too & a cold beer. We will be back again just not anytime soon bc I am really trying to change my habits.
On to the show…. So good. I have never been a huge fan of NEEDTOBREATHE but they were good. Now the opener was where it was at. Drew Holcomb & the neighbors. Such a good sound and its sort of a husband & wife thing. So sweet & made me love them more. Please check them out & support good music.
Here are some pictures!

2nd time for MUSE & a milkshake

MUSE! I simply adore them & cannot begin to express how much. I saw them in 2010 with U2 & was thrilled that I was going to see them at Centennial for FREE!!! I have always loved electronic & just any kind of interesting sounds in music. I get so tired of all the “musicians” out there and most music these days is boring to me… Or sounds like everything else. I love the fact that MUSE has their own sound and they are the only band that can pull it off. Fun fact: their bass player now use to play drums for a different band, but was asked to play bass by Matthew Bellamy (lead singer) for their band then called: “rocket baby dolls”. He took some lessons & taught himself the rest. He is my FAV bass player to date. So much Respect for this band & they will always be my favorite. I ended the night with my love & a milkshake. Strawberry & Chocolate. Mm.

Easter & Maroon 5

EASTER! One of my favorite Holidays. So thankful for this day & what it means to me. My Father surprised a lot of people getting out of that tomb! It is overwhelming to know he gave his life for me so I can choose him. I am so glad I did.
Easter is usually spent with my Mom and step-dad & the in laws but my mom has been really sick so we had to move it to two weeks from now. Hubster played at church & then we headed to his parents. They had quite a spread there– including my favorite food group of Holidays- HAM. Mmm! After lunch we went to our good friends house & stayed really late. It was so good to see them. Their little man is growing so fast and we love them oh so much.
I am already thinking of when we have kids and what Easter will be like then. Will we get up & make breakfast or go out to the same place every year. Who knows! Here are some pictures I took on Easter.

Now. Since I am still looking for a job we don’t go out much. So last Wednesday Cory & I were talking about how bored we were. Cory said he prayed but I was napping so I didn’t hear it. Around 4:00 our friend Danny called and gave us two tickets to see Owl City ( he is their light guy ) Neon Trees & Maroon 5… Um YES! We walked to Phillips — about 2 miles and hung out with him for a bit & then watched the shows. So much talent that night & I was blown away at how amazing Maroon 5 was live. Adam Levine can freakin play the guitar! We were so thankful for that little treat we got blessed with. The Lord always comes through, even in the smallest of ways. Here are some pictures from the show.
