picture perfect day

so a couple of weeks back we set up a date at piedmont park with the ivey’s. ronda & i wanted some practice with our cameras & it was a beautiful day. i have so enjoyed getting to use my camera more & ever since i ordered my new lens i am even more obsessed. i have light-room now & it is really fun learning and putting your stamp on a photo. i particularly love close ups so my new lens is perfect for that. for those of you who are interested i used this one.  it was a picture perfect day- sunny- good company & laughter.

practice makes perfect?

i left work early wednesday- i got a fever and had some chills & i stayed home thursday bc i was still sick & didn’t want to get anyone else sick. i hate being sick more than anything, there is nothing to do and it is a big waste of time. so to make myself feel productive i downloaded lightroom5 & figured it out. i am still figuring it out, but i love it so much. i am so excited to learn more about the program &  i am waiting on my new 50mm lens to come in…it should be here on monday.

i cannot wait to be back in haiti to practice on those beautiful people & beautiful country. april 28 is just around the corner and we only have $1000 to go, God has been so good in providing for us just like he always does & i am so excited to see what he does this trip.

tomorrow we (ronda & i) have a lovely day planned back at piedmont park to practice with our cameras and get some new photos for our upcoming project we are working on. i cannot wait to have some updated ones  for the blog and for personal use. it is supposed to be a high of 66, which means lunch in the park on an old blanket, long walks, laughs, sunny skies for great pictures and the market will be open! let the weekend adventure begin.

on a good note- my book came in. “back to basics”– it is all about traditional skills- canning- living off the land- what veggies to grow when and where- basically everything i need to know to survive off my land. my dream as you all know is to have my own little farm. so excited for the future & learning to be happy in the present.

hope you  guys all have an amazing weekend!

French Fries, Onion rings & Shopping

i always love having girl time. eating. shopping. talking about our lives. sharing our dreams. spending too much money on hairspray and mouthwash.

last night one of my very best friends and i had a date. we went to goodwill, had some food at yard house in atlantic station and then headed over to target. talked about life, love, adventure & where we want to be. we tried on witch hats. looked through the weird pantie bins at target (the sizes are never in the right place)- and tried on shoes.

back to the food- we seem to always go to yard house when we hang out= we love the place. they have all these “snacks” so if you want something small you can order a few of those and get a drink.. they have tons of different drinks. we ordered the garlic and herb fries, onion ring tower, and in the end we had a brownie. my favorite thing we got was the drink, the “moscow mule” — this is like my favorite drink right now ginger beer, vodka, and lime. easy. simple. and amazing. yard house makes their own ginger beer which made the taste amazing. how many times can i say amazing? they even served them in the traditional moscow mule cup. im in love.

i also signed up to have jillian be my personal running partner. we start on monday. say a prayer for me please.

Old to New & Better

About 2 weeks or so ago this guy from the church we work for came by our place and asked us if we needed any furniture. We told him to take some pictures & send them to us. He did. It was a dresser just like I have been picturing in my head & my mind went crazy. I was so excited of all the possibilities of what I could do with it. It was free too & we felt so blessed that a guy we didn’t even know would just give it to us. God always provides in ways you never think of.
Here is what the dresser looked like when I got it. It was varnished on the top and I don’t really like that look.

I knew I had some tan & white. Alot of it. I started sanding with about a 100 grit paper but I knew it was going to take me 10 years to get that junk off of it. I went to my little construction area of the house and found some of this stuff we used to eat the paint off of the metal windows and I put it all over the dresser and let it sit until the color changed. I took a scraper and scraped most of the varnish off & started sanding again. I went to Home Depot & bought a 60 grit paper and got back to it.

After sanding for what seems like eternity and my arms were killing me the sanding was finished. Now like I said before I just do all this by fly. So I got some tan and painted it all- dry- paint again.

I knew I wanted it aged so again I found all the raised edges and sanded those. Where all the hardware would be I made that look warn. I then went on the porch and sprayed all the hardware a silver metal finish which my handsome husband picked out.

After I fell in love with what I did I took a steel wool pad and scuffed it up-bashed at it with a hammer & then clear coated it. Put the new hardware on and BAM! Cool thing is I spent about $15 on this dresser total. Took something old & made it look different and new!

Skips

We tried this little hot dog joint in Decatur, SKIPS! Mmm! I had the chili cheese dog, and Cory had a Chicago dog. I also tried the onion rings which were the best I have ever had! If you are ever in Decatur and want some excellent food go here!

Best French Toast

Cory & I decided to go to this little place about a mile from our home, La Mongerie. One of my favorite places in Atlanta. I’m a sucker for breakfast at all times of the day, so when looking at the menu all I could see were waffles and French Toast. Our waiter told me to def. get the French Toast and I did! First of all, if you can picture it– thick slices of bread (seemed to be homemade) when you pushed your fork on top of the bread it bounced right back up. We are talking fluffy fluffy! She put fresh cut strawberry slices over the top, with just the right amount of powdered sugar and syrup. I chose the pecan smoked bacon to go with it and it was dreamy. On Sundays they also have free mimosas. FREE! Cory got the chicken and waffles and he said they were the Best waffles he’s ever had!! On our way out I couldn’t help but notice all the sweet treats up front and I decided on the Amaretto Cheesecake, Cory could not decide between the chocolate Mousse and the freshly baked pecan pie! The owner gave us a a pecan pie and we bought the other two. Even though I was stuffed to the brim I could not help but try one (or 4) bites of that cheesecake. Cannot wait to go back!!

Frames are up

20130208-082424.jpg

Finally got around to putting pictures up on one wall at least. Cannot wait to show more pictures of the progress! I never do those crazy outlines with tape and move them around to get the perfect balance between the photos. I jump head first and put one up and the others just follow.
