what i have been up to.

well it has been a while since my last post- we have had just a “little bit” of stuff going on. we were in haiti for a week which was amazing! i am so thankful to be able to go and love on those people & in return them love on me. i have made long lasting friendships and consider most of them family. when i have a moment to collect all my thoughts & feelings about the trip i will write a more detailed blog, for any of you who have been on a mission trip before you can relate that sometimes it is hard to put all those emotions into words especially when you are sitting at your desk at work. so… here are some pictures!

daydreaming on a saturday

this weekend was so good. i had no plans. no where to be. i watched tv- caught up on white collar & vampire diaries. i cannot get away from that show, but i have always loved vampires so oh well.

saturday ronda came to atlanta. we walked to piedmont park- took some photos- shared some thoughts- made some plans. really exciting plans & i cannot wait to share with you. i have so much creativity i have been wanting to get out. i need an outlet & i think i have found one. yay.

these converse. i love them. i take them everywhere.

Image

also can we just talk about the weather this weekend? atlanta, you have made me proud. it was gorgeous. we are going back this saturday to take some family photos. we have not done photos in forever, if ever, besides the occasional give your phone to your friend and say take our picture. it will give us good practice too.

Image

love this picture. it was AMAZING weather.

Image

we ate at willy’s. i love that place. i used to go there a lot with my friend jillian. good memories in that place.

Image

it is so refreshing to have a friend like ronda. i love her so much. she has such a sweet spirit & such a giving heart. you should all be so lucky.

sundays are always busy for us. i didn’t go to church bc we had a group coming to stay at the mission house & i needed to be there to greet them. i walked to starbucks & walked to cvs & cleaned the apartment. it was so nice. cory got home late & we walked down the street to have a taco.

Image

needless to say it was a very good weekend!

sister sunday, squirrels, & a show

this past week has been eventful. sunday i went to c-town with cory for church but ending up sitting in a coffee shop all morning helping my sister organize her life. we are completely opposite when it comes to things like organization.

Image

some people say we look like twins

Image

this past week one of my co-workers brought me some squirrel meat stew. it was so good! i have had squirrel before but not in stew.

Image

hey, at least i can survive in the wild right?

last night cory played guitar with a band called gin house. they are pretty awesome. this band i had never heard of before called melodime was there & then courrier.

when cory & i first got married he got a guitar tech job with a band called parachute & some of the dates they played with courrier. cory has always spoken so highly of them. great musicians & pretty decent guys all around from what i have heard and the 5 minutes i spoke to them. i finally got to hear them play last night & i lOVED them. i told cory we need to make a road-trip out to austin and see them play there & bc i have never been to austin. if you guys are looking for some good music look them up!

village kanes & haiti round 2

so excited. like you do not even have a clue. or maybe you do? we are going back to haiti april 28th. so happy. we are starting our fundraising again= if you guys have any tips on this i would love to have them to share with my team. i keep thinking of all these ideas and things we can do and my mind is full. it is a very humbling experience to put yourself out there and ask someone else to donate to something that you care so much about.

this is village kanes

* these photos were taken by my beautiful friend Tracey- you can check her out here

to give you a picture, just think mud huts that are in need of repair. children with no clothes at all. there little chapped lips from being so thirsty, little dirty feet, and the biggest smiles. ronda had told us to be prepared for what we would see & we all have these visions in our minds of what it is going to be like, but it is completely different when you step off the bus and you see everything for yourself. you experience making a connection with a child that you cannot explain. you do not even know how to speak their language & yet there is this bond you have with them. i loved it. i instantly made this connection with this little boy who was playing peek a boo with me behind his mother. she eventually waved him over to me & i was hooked. him in just his little torn shirt was something so special to me. i gave him so many hugs and so many kisses.

my sweet little guy

Image

village kanes is surrounded by such beauty & i would love to help them in every way possible. we were able to pass out shoes & rice to these families & they were so so happy. for our trip in april we are raising an extra $400 to put a water tank in for the people of village kanes. if you would like to contribute please feel free to visit my page here

cory & i were changed forever & are so excited to be going back!!!!!

Haiti Part #2

i have many favorite memories in haiti like meeting all the HCM staff, all my talks with the girls, worship on the roof, going to village of faith and doing worship at night in the complete darkness, taking cold showers and not really caring bc your so excited to wake up another day in such a beautiful country, their coffee, their food- i really crave rice & beans, trying to scare megan on the porch, hanging out with all the kids, getting some of the best hugs, visiting all the orphanages and seeing all those sweet kids i wish i could bring home with me or stay there and hang out with them everyday.. you get the point. i loved all of it.

sarah & megan- loved getting to know these sweet girls.

Haiti Part 1

i have been back for a minute now, & have had time to collect some thoughts. every one says your life changes when you go on a mission trip & they were correct. they also say you go into it thinking your are going to help the people and make their lives better- & then you realize your life was made better by them. my heart left a piece of itself in haiti & i cannot wait to go back. i have been trying to put into words to describe to people what it was like & i can talk about the driving, the people, learning the language, all the wonderful kids, but when i try to talk about the deep stuff, matters of the heart it is really hard. i would say you would have to go yourself and have your own experience. here are some of the pictures- i took so many so i am going to break this up into a couple of posts.

Christmas Tree & Fate

this past saturday finally felt like christmas- so we got our tree! so happy. we drove to home depot and picked out the cutest 6ft tree you ever did see. when we brought it back home our tree stand broke, so we made our way back out to  get one. came home, turned on christmas music and got to work. after the room was lit up with christmas color we sat down to watch parks & rec – eat a cheese plate & enjoy the night.  cory said when we get back from haiti-he wants to do nothing but christmas things all saturday. egg nog. shortbread cookies. christmas movies. all things christmas, which i am perfectly ok with.

but. this saturday= we leave for haiti. i know i keep talking and talking about it… my heart is literally filled with excitement and anticipation. just to amp up my excitement last night we had something i like to call fate. for those of you who do not know, this is the definition.

FATE
  1. the development of events beyond a person’s control, regarded as determined by a supernatural power.
we decided we needed to go out and find these beloved chacos everyone loves so dearly. we ended up in little 5 at abbadabbas. on a side note i have never been and this store is amazing. i will be back. soon. cory found the chaco rack and i tried not to squirm over the fact that they are $100 a pair- this nice lady, Amy, was there to help us. we started talking and of course she asked us where we were going and i started talking all about our haiti trip. then i saw her eyes light up  and i knew i was going to have a moment of fate. she started sharing about how she has a non-profit in haiti and she was leaving on the 28th to go back. she is even going to move there soon. i loved hearing her share her heart and show pictures of all that has taken place through her willingness to serve. my heart was so happy after leaving there with those expensive shoes & i knew i was supposed to be there- supposed to meet her. so funny how God works. i love it. if you would like to check out her site you can do so right here — this world is so big yet so small all at the same time. so thankful to meet her!
you guys please keep our group in your prayers- my heart is so ready for this trip and i am so incredibly grateful for each one of you who has sent prayers our way.

Whoa

i am so behind. these last few weeks have been really  busy with the husband and life in general. it is officially cold & i sort of like it. it is time for fires, thinking of camping, soup, chili, big sweaters and all things happy but most of all-  THANKSGIVING & CHRISTMAS.

some friends and i went and saw david ramirez at eddie’s attic– he was amazing and you all should go listen to his music right now and buy every album he has.

we also are only $250 dollars away from meeting our goal for our haiti trip in december. words cannot even express how excited and happy i am about this mission trip. to get away from this world of want and expectation to see a world where their  needs are something we take for granted every day. it is good to get out of your box, out of your comfort zone and do something good. i have been feeling like this for a while now, like everyday i do things and they don’t really matter. i want to do something that matters. there is so much need in the world. everywhere you look there is need. whether it be a shoulder to cry on, people dealing with self-esteem issues, someone who does not have food, someone who does not even own a pair of underwear or wear the same clothes everyday. you do not have to go on  a mission trip to bring change to the world, but i am very happy to be going on one. i know the change we will bring there will  bring just as much change for my own life.

other news: we are so busy with planning the holidays- so many families to visit but so excited to see all of them. say a prayer for my brother who is going through his ranger school right now- i know he is going to make it and we are so proud of him, cannot wait to go to his graduation.

i already have been wrapping presents for cory- we have decided not to do family gifts this year bc we are so busy so just presents between cory & i. we will be gone the week before christmas so it makes it easier. the family and i are going to bring a dish style christmas gathering and just enjoy being with each other. however i love christmas and i love wrapping and here are some really cool wrapping ideas i found on pinterest.
