dancing goats coffee bar & little man

i have been a starbucks fan for a while now. i love loading my app and getting rewards & i do love the iced caramel macchiato.

until now.

i work in downtown decatur & have been making my way over to the dancing goats coffee shop alot lately. in fact i have been obsessed with their iced caramel latte. i am such a sucker for good coffee & batdorf & bronson coffee roasters have hit the nail on the head with their coffee.

today my sweet husband called me at work, & my first thought was, something has happened… nope. he said, “come outside” i knew immediately what he had done! go outside & there he is sitting in the white rocket (our old van) with my favorite coffee.

made my day.

Image

last night i had the privilege of watching little man (my friends little boy) for a few hours while his parents took care of an obligation. i was so excited. i do not have any kids yet, so any chance to hang out with little ones i will take. we went to the mall for chicken nuggets- went to old navy and he found a few hats he liked.

Image

Image

he decided on the top.

good choice. it fits him well. he also snagged an r2d2 toy that was stuffed with candy. i did not know about the candy, but his mom texted me this morning and told me r2d2 fell and broke his head & candy came out. woo-hoo. extra points for me. we then shared some cookies from that amazing cookie place at the mall that i cannot remember the name of. we also went to the photo booth.

Image

after the mall we headed to target. he helped me pick out a v-neck and some sunglasses.

first of all, let me tell you, this kid loves cars. loves them. we turned down the car aisle and he went nuts. his eyes were huge and he knew exactly what he wanted. a box with 4 cars. i even picked up a bigger car that made noises.. nope he still chose the box with 4. he knows what he wants. i can appreciate that.

also, i had gotten a coffee drink & i sat it beside him in the buggy. i was kneeling down to look at these car shoes that lit up and they were like $6. i stand back up and he was drinking my coffee. sorry jena. im sure it was like a sip. i was like seriously? you like coffee too? me & this kid are bff. anyways, i should have never taken that shoe off to try on the other one. how do you parents do it? they were like slip on shoes & i felt like i was going to break his ankles putting those things back on (not really break them, but you know what i mean). after target we had only a little time before i met his parents, so we headed to the starbucks parking lot. he had been digging his hands into the side of the car box so obviously we needed to play with them. i parked the van- got him out of his car seat and put him up front with me. took all the cars out and we acted like the cars were exploding and wrecking into each other on the dash. i am fantastic with sound effects so he loved it. he kept handing me the cars wanting me to make sounds and would do this cute little laugh & grin every. single. time.

his parents came & picked him up & he was so excited to see them. it was so sweet.

thank you jena for letting me have some time with your little guy. he is the sweetest & cutest.

did i mention she is expecting her 2nd child & tomorrow we have the gender reveal party to see what she is having! super excited.

i will be taking my new lens to hopefully capture some good moments. i will post them to show you guys!

have a good weekend!

wishing, wanting, & hoping

wishing for warmer weather where my feet aren’t frozen all day. wanting sun kissed skin. hoping for the days where i can float around in my in-laws pool.

atlanta had its second “snow/ice storm” — i was stuck inside for 2 days with my main squeeze. i did taxes. cleaned out the closets. cleaned the house. baked good for our 80’s dance party this weekend. watched a ton of netflix- & we finally started “lost” & played with our cats.

this is dexter

Image

i have had a lot of time to think about warmer weather outfits and since i got my white converse in the mail the other day- my outfits are being completed in my mind. i cannot wait to get our computer next month so i can get more involved with my blog- taking pictures and what not of me actually wearing the clothes i buy, and pictures of DIY projects and things I make-

until then, here are some things i found on pinterest.

we went on a picnic & now we are snowed in

this past weekend we went on a picnic in the same park we got married at. i am sure i have told you all how obsessed cory is with ingles, so that is where went for our treats. we got bread, cheese, hummus, bagel chips, wine & mexican coke. it was so nice outside! now. well. we are
trapped inside from an ice storm & i love it! we started watching “lost” today- made some horrible cookies- put the cats in sweaters- did tax stuff & cuddled. i have been thinking a lot about our future farm today & i don’t think i have mentioned anything about this certain plot of land i have my eyes set on. it is 53 acres with a 2 bedroom 1 bath cabin – the back porch leads to a dock that you can fish out of- it has pecan trees, blueberry bushes & lots of woods. it is a dream. i can just imagine building a house there and having my chickens & some cows & growing my vegetable garden & everything else in my daydream. i have been praying a lot about our future & we put ourselves on a strict budget so we can have a lot saved to go towards our dream land. i was telling my friend ashlan the other day that i can see her & i having a glass of wine in the hot tub while our children run around the yard getting into trouble. we would be total red necks about the whole ordeal & i wouldn’t mind. it is good to have dreams and to pursue those. so cheers to the dream we want and soon shall have! hope everyone stays warm on this snowy- freezing- day!

village kanes & haiti round 2

so excited. like you do not even have a clue. or maybe you do? we are going back to haiti april 28th. so happy. we are starting our fundraising again= if you guys have any tips on this i would love to have them to share with my team. i keep thinking of all these ideas and things we can do and my mind is full. it is a very humbling experience to put yourself out there and ask someone else to donate to something that you care so much about.

this is village kanes

* these photos were taken by my beautiful friend Tracey- you can check her out here

to give you a picture, just think mud huts that are in need of repair. children with no clothes at all. there little chapped lips from being so thirsty, little dirty feet, and the biggest smiles. ronda had told us to be prepared for what we would see & we all have these visions in our minds of what it is going to be like, but it is completely different when you step off the bus and you see everything for yourself. you experience making a connection with a child that you cannot explain. you do not even know how to speak their language & yet there is this bond you have with them. i loved it. i instantly made this connection with this little boy who was playing peek a boo with me behind his mother. she eventually waved him over to me & i was hooked. him in just his little torn shirt was something so special to me. i gave him so many hugs and so many kisses.

my sweet little guy

Image

village kanes is surrounded by such beauty & i would love to help them in every way possible. we were able to pass out shoes & rice to these families & they were so so happy. for our trip in april we are raising an extra $400 to put a water tank in for the people of village kanes. if you would like to contribute please feel free to visit my page here

cory & i were changed forever & are so excited to be going back!!!!!

i have many favorite memories in haiti like meeting all the HCM staff, all my talks with the girls, worship on the roof, going to village of faith and doing worship at night in the complete darkness, taking cold showers and not really caring bc your so excited to wake up another day in such a beautiful country, their coffee, their food- i really crave rice & beans, trying to scare megan on the porch, hanging out with all the kids, getting some of the best hugs, visiting all the orphanages and seeing all those sweet kids i wish i could bring home with me or stay there and hang out with them everyday.. you get the point. i loved all of it.

sarah & megan- loved getting to know these sweet girls.

Christmas Tree & Fate

this past saturday finally felt like christmas- so we got our tree! so happy. we drove to home depot and picked out the cutest 6ft tree you ever did see. when we brought it back home our tree stand broke, so we made our way back out to  get one. came home, turned on christmas music and got to work. after the room was lit up with christmas color we sat down to watch parks & rec – eat a cheese plate & enjoy the night.  cory said when we get back from haiti-he wants to do nothing but christmas things all saturday. egg nog. shortbread cookies. christmas movies. all things christmas, which i am perfectly ok with.
Image

Image  ImageImageImage

but. this saturday= we leave for haiti. i know i keep talking and talking about it… my heart is literally filled with excitement and anticipation. just to amp up my excitement last night we had something i like to call fate. for those of you who do not know, this is the definition.

FATE
  1. the development of events beyond a person’s control, regarded as determined by a supernatural power.
we decided we needed to go out and find these beloved chacos everyone loves so dearly. we ended up in little 5 at abbadabbas. on a side note i have never been and this store is amazing. i will be back. soon. cory found the chaco rack and i tried not to squirm over the fact that they are $100 a pair- this nice lady, Amy, was there to help us. we started talking and of course she asked us where we were going and i started talking all about our haiti trip. then i saw her eyes light up  and i knew i was going to have a moment of fate. she started sharing about how she has a non-profit in haiti and she was leaving on the 28th to go back. she is even going to move there soon. i loved hearing her share her heart and show pictures of all that has taken place through her willingness to serve. my heart was so happy after leaving there with those expensive shoes & i knew i was supposed to be there- supposed to meet her. so funny how God works. i love it. if you would like to check out her site you can do so right here — this world is so big yet so small all at the same time. so thankful to meet her!
you guys please keep our group in your prayers- my heart is so ready for this trip and i am so incredibly grateful for each one of you who has sent prayers our way.

Thankful

thanksgiving! it is almost here. i can smell the turkey, sweet potato casserole, fresh bread & lots of deserts. i can hear all the laughter and can already anticipate all the hugs. i’m ready to put my tree up and hang lights and pick out our ornament of the year (it is a tradition for us). i think thanksgiving is a time to enjoy your family and a time to reflect on what you are truly thankful for. so in honor of thanksgiving i am going to do just that.

i am thankful for..

Jesus– bc without him i am nothing. he has truly changed my life in every way possible & is the one that is always there.

cory– god truly was looking out for me in the husband department. we have been through so much together, but i am not whole without him. he truly is my best friend and the person i can lean on for everything. he is also the only person that can get on my nerves so much & i still love to be around him at the same time. he is the person i want to wake up beside everyday and he makes me the best coffee. i cant wait to have little ones of our own and see him as a dad. makes my heart melt thinking about it. he is the funniest person i know & makes me laugh so much. he is my favorite cook (besides my mom), he is the  most talented person i know and so humble. i could listen to him sing and play guitar all day long. he makes me feel safe and is such an amazing provider. he surprises me.

Image

Image

family– i love my family! even though we have been through some crazy stuff i love them so much. btw sunday was the first time i have ever been in a vehicle and my sister was driving so i had to document it.

this is my beautiful sister shenea who i love so much. she is such an inspiration. so much talent in that little body of hers. god has great plans for her life.

Image

my brother jacob. i wish he was not so far away. miss him so  much & maybe on of these days we will all be able to clean the skeletons out of the closet. so proud of him.

Image

my nanny and poppy. i miss her everyday and when it comes time for the holidays it is really hard. things aren’t the same and i wish so badly she would have met cory. she would have loved him so much. so thankful for who she was and is to me. i am forever thankful for her love.

Image

my mom and step dad- these two are such a blessing. my mom is seriously the best at everything. cooking- baking- decorating you name it! when i was 14 when my parents divorced. my mom did everything she had to for us to make it. she was a stay at home wife and that was all she ever knew. she worked multiple jobs and the lord always provided. she has so much strength and cannot wait for her to be grandma to our kiddos. this time of year i immediately start thinking of my moms famous sweet potato souffle- you guys- it is the best.

Image

my dad- we have been through it- but we came out on top. i am a true believer that you can find good in everything. i always try to look for the positive in people and in circumstances. through our relationship i have learned to forgive. what kind of person would i be if i didn’t? i also gained a step mom who i adore! my dad is so funny and has the biggest laugh.

Matthew 6:14-15

For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.  But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Mark 11:25

And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. “
Image

friends– goodness i have some great friends. i am picky when it comes to who i share my time with & who i share my personal life with but i have some amazing people the lord has placed in my life- for laughing- for times where i just need someone to talk too- to pray for me- to encourage- to eat with- to “grow up” with- to dream with- i cannot wait until i am closer where i can see some of there faces more often.

jena– you have been with me before cory and during cory and with cory and everything else. your friendship is so treasured and you are such an amazing person. i am so blessed to have you in my life and cannot wait for our kids to grow up together. you are such a beautiful person inside and out and every time you walk in a room the place lights up! so thankful for you.

Image

ashlan– i love youuuuuuuu. you are so unique and so funny. your an amazing mother and i love watching all these blessings unfold in your life. you and aj set such an example to people with your relationship with each other, and with the lord. you are so funny and make me laugh all the time. your such a leader and your little girl has such an amazing example as to what a woman should be. you have incredible style and i cannot wait until we are closer and can share clothes. i love that you are you no matter where you are. so thankful for you.

image (4)

a-bomb- you are such a treasure. i look up to you so much- in every way. i’m trying not to cry at work while i write this lol. through all the horrible times in my life you have been the one that was there. you are the person i have called when i could not even talk on the phone & i was just sobbing. thank you for being that person. thank you for setting such an example for me & always being there through the not so easy times. what would i have done without you? cannot wait for the day to call you and say, “yo girl i’m pregnant”. I cannot wait to live closer and see you more. one day when we have our hippy farm, we can sit on the front porch swinging away with our boobs hanging down to our knees from all them children. sounds good right? so thankful for you.

image (8)

rachel- i love you girl. i know we just have become friends, but i feel like i have known you forever. your my kindred spirit. your full of grace and beauty & words cannot express how much i am thankful for you. i love our talks and i appreciate knowing i have a friend that prays for me. so thankful for you

image (6)

jillian– where do i even begin? when i first moved to woodstock i never expected to find a friend quite like you. with one look i knew you were something special. you laugh at my jokes- we laugh at ourselves. we followed each other around from job to job and i secretly still want a company called jillyvans. we can do it! you are so funny- you are so true to yourself and i love our coffee dates and shopping sprees. your so honest and i am so thankful for you.

image (3)

abby– you are such an inspiration. you are always so happy & your personality draws people in. you are always smiling. you and jays love is like no others and you set such a standard. thank you for everything you have done for cory & i. so happy to be apart of each others lives.

image (4)

we all need to take moments and thank the special people in our lives. lets not wait until thanksgiving every year. lets be thankful everyday for every single person in our lives, for every moment we have left, lets be appreciative of people, lets care about people, lets be examples that the world needs to see.

i hope you all have an amazing thanksgiving and i cannot wait to post pictures of all the yummy food i am going to devour.

Cinnamon Rolls with Maple Glaze

since it is fall i have been stuck on this maple theme. last week i made a pumpkin desert with maple glaze and pecans and all things heavenly. last night we had some company over so i decided to try out my talents on them. i found this recipe on pinterest of course- you can find it here

image (21)

for me working with yeast is sometimes a trying thing (maybe bc i have not done it alot) or maybe bc i believe yeast has a mind of its own. either way last night i won. the dough arose and made its way into my 9X13 pan.

so if you guys are into the whole cinnamon roll thing, or into the magical things in life. you should really make these. mmm. i even had one for breakfast- microwaved that bad boy for 20 seconds and BAM! so good.

Rolls
1 cup warm milk (lukewarm, not hot)
2 eggs at room temperature
1/3 cup butter, melted
4  and 1/2 cups Flour
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup white sugar
2 and 1/4 tsp dry active yeast (or 1 envelope)
Filling
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 white sugar
2 and 1/2 tbsp cinnamon
2/3 cup butter, melted
Glaze
6-7 cups powdered sugar
2 tbsp maple syrup
2 tbps milk
1/4 cup melted butter
1/4 cup brewed coffee
1/8 tsp Salt
Directions
For the Rolls
Heat the milk.  Sprinkle the yeast over the milk and let sit for a minute, until its all moist.

In the bowl of a stand mixer, fitted with the dough hook, add the milk, yeast, eggs, butter, flour, salt and sugar.

Mix until a ball of dough forms.  Continue to knead for another 5 minutes.

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and let rise until doubled in size.
After the dough has doubled in size turn it out onto a lightly floured surface, cover and let rest for 10 minutes.
Filling
In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, white sugar and cinnamon.  Melt the butter.
Roll dough into a 16×21-inch rectangle. Brush the dough with the butter (I just poured it on the dough and spread it around with a pastry brush) and sprinkle evenly with sugar/cinnamon mixture. Roll up dough and cut into 12 pieces.
Place rolls in a lightly greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise until nearly doubled, about 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Bake rolls until golden brown, about 15 minutes.

Glaze
While rolls are baking, make the glaze.  Combine all ingredients in a bowl and whisk until smooth.  Glaze should be thick, but pour-able.  Adjust to taste as needed.
Generously drizzle glaze on warm rolls.  Make sure you completely cover the tops and sides.  The buns will absorb some of the glaze as they sit and cool.
